This custom Minesweeper was created as a gift celebrating
Kyle Orland, Senior Gaming Editor at
Ars Technica since 2012.
Kyle learned Minesweeper from his mother on her work computer,
competed for high scores with his college roommate, and went on to
become one of gaming journalism's most respected voices.
Did you know? Kyle literally wrote the book on Minesweeper!
His 2023 book from Boss Fight Books explores how this simple game shipped
on billions of Windows PCs, caused an identity crisis at Microsoft, and
even got Bill Gates so addicted that developers had to program a bot to
beat his high score so he'd get back to work.
Kyle got his start at age 14 founding Super Mario Bros. HQ, and has
since written for NPR, Electronic Gaming Monthly, Gamasutra, and many
more. He's also the author of "Wii for Dummies."
